DISCOVER SERTÃ

Start your tour at the Filipino Bridge of Sertã, also known as Ponte da Carvalha, Ponte Velha or Ponte da Várzea. Built during Philippine dominium in the 17th century, the Philippine bridge was a strategic gateway to the village and, during the French invasions, it was one of the places used by the Sertaginians to defend themselves from the entry of enemy troops.

Passing by the Lagar da Vara, walk through the streets of the town center to the castle. Nowadays It is believed that Sertã Castle possibly dates back to the Islamic period (10th and 11th centuries). Besides all its history, there you will have one of the best views over the whole village.

Among the chapels, the Paços do Concelho building and other historical points, take a break to taste typical dishes of the region. The Festival of Gastronomy of Maranho da Sertã, also known as the festival of Maranho and Bucho normally takes place in July, also attracts many visitors who are eager to taste traditional Portuguese specialties.
